Welcome back to the yearly roast of Daylight saving!
So, last year I abused how DLS (gonna call it DLS because I genuinely can't be bothered to spell it out every time) ruined my development experience because I had to calculate if DLS was enabled at that time of the year and perform some API calls. It was tedious. And so was my rant, made on my “professional” blog, that I took down later because it didn't look good on me.
But guess what. Today, I find there's a community of DLS haters! I haven't been this excited since I figured there are people who hate cotton candy as much as I do.
Apparently, George Hudson, an entomologist, devised the idea of DLS. This lad had to work on shifts and did not have time collecting insects, went on to suggest moving everyone’s clock by two hours - just so he could catch bugs. The rest of this daft world found it was more productive and implemented it almost everywhere.
Fast forward to 2024, (most of) the US does it, (most of) Australia does it, the EU also does but is considering abolishing it, the UK does it and some countries in South America and some countries in Asia (god knows what for!).
Such a pain in the A. Does not save power, confuses people who follow it for at least a week, all online meetings have to be considerate when people from multiple nationalities are part of it. Real mess, I tell you.
Anyway, this will be the rant for this year. Hopefully, I don't have to put one in 2025.
Curse you, Hudson.
